The Power of Accomplishment

This week has been a busy week. Stact Club, the only club I joined together with Chee Heng(Torros), Chin Yang(Roger), and other classmates, is organising the Charity Monopoly Challenge. On Tuesday, they drew the floor advertisement. On Wednesday, they would start painting it and after that start drawing the huge banner. Torros was seeking for help, though I am not part of the organising team, I would like to give a hand. Roger also agreed in giving a hand but in the end, he couldn't come as he was feeling unwell.

They appointed to meet each other at 8pm at SAO. Everyone's job is the same, paint the drawings. It wasn't a easy task as it looked. At first there were less than 10 painters, which is a very small team. As the indicators of the clock were nearing 12, showing it's already late, most painters started to leave, leaving 5 behind. Torros and I were one of them. Leaving behind these 5 person, the work got harder.

After we have finished the painting, it's time to draw the banner. We planned to project the image on the banner by placing the projector on the ceiling or above banner so that we could follow the image and drow, but we were having a problem in getting the signal to the projector through the laptop. After about half and hour of guessing and setting, we finally get it. But problems yet to come. The projector needed a higher place to screen the image on the banner to be fit but there wasn't such place and the plug was not long enough. So we gave up and decided to draw the banner using the other technique, freehand. Thanks to the pro drawer, the publicity for the event, she manage to draw everything freehanded and yet precisely. The part I drew, it was a mess till she came and corrected it for me. I felt like I gave her more problems instead of help. I don't have the art genes. Felt so guilty about it.

Anyway, it was already over 4am, Thursday, when everythin is done. Torros and I only have 2 hours to sleep before 8am class and the Thursday classes are from 8am to 2pm straight. Oh my god. I was so doomed, we were so doomed.

We were late for the first class for about 20 minutes. Sleepy in the following classes. After the tiring day, we rushed back to sleep as we were going to have our 2nd session at 8pm same place to paint the banner we drew the day before.

On Thurday, more helpers were called. Roger (Chin Yang) and his girlfriend came to help as well - after feeling guilty about not able to give us a hand on Wednesday night. On halfway through, even Max came to help. His main reason to come over was to take something from Roger, but end up helping us, how kind. The atmosphere in the working place became more lifely as 4 of us, Max, Roger, Torros and I started to chat and joke. This way, it is more relaxing. Although the number of helper has tripled the previous night's, we only manage to complete everything at 4am. After the tiring hours, 5 of us, Roger, Max, Torros, another friend and I went to Bistro to have our supper.

After refilling our energy, we carry the tools back. I had to carry the heavy banner all the way from Bistro to Block L hostel.

Today, after the hardwork from everyone, the banner is finally up on display. My first time drawing and painting such huge banner. It is even my first time trying to tie such huge banner in order to display it. The banner is about 3 stories long, 2 classes wide. What an accomplishment.

I am happy that I was able to help, somehow, in some ways. Although it was very very tiring and there are many assignments, proposal and test due the following week, no matter what it took us to complete the work, the feeling of being able to accomplish something after intense hardwork is great.
